The New York-based diamond firm aims to educate the world and dispel myths about the African nation through the documentary, offering it free of charge on the company’s YouTube channel : www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlhEQgNk1JI&t=523s

Aptly called Namibia: The shining diamond of Africa, the moving documentary takes viewers on a cinematic journey through Namibia’s majestic natural landscapes, dating back 80-million years to the Jurassic age. Mesmerizing aerial views include: the world’s oldest desert and highest sand dunes, where the ocean meets the desert, the second-largest canyon in the world, breathtaking crimson sunsets, and the surreally starry Namibian night sky.

Interviews with the President of Namibia, founding fathers and locals give a close up look at the growth, challenges and future of one of the youngest nations in the world.

Diamonds International established the leading diamond cutting and polishing facility in the country, which produces one of the fastest growing diamond brands in the world, the Crown of Light. Namibian President Hage Geingob honors Diamonds International for creating employment opportunities during the economic crisis at the company’s 10thyear anniversary celebration, and discusses Namibian people working abroad for the diamond company.

Pamela Anderson Takes On Ride-Hail Apps in #MeToo Campaign

Movies, Society

Actress & Activist Partners with Ride Responsibly and PAVE Calling for Better Background Checks for Ride-Hail Drivers

The National Limousine Association’s Ride Responsibly™ initiative (www.rideresponsibly.org) and Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment (PAVE) have joined forces to produce a public service campaign, starring actress, activist and sexual violence survivor Pamela Anderson. The PSA draws attention to the vast number of sexual assaults that have occurred in ride-hailing vehicles and questions if these were caused by insufficient background check procedures. This PSA serves as a call-to-action following alarming revelations of sexual harassment and assault that reach far beyond Hollywood and Washington, D.C.

Experience the interactive Multichannel News Release here: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/8098851-nla-ride-responsibly-pave-psa-the-signs/

The video, titled “The Signs”, is Pamela’s second PSA for the Ride Responsibly initiative, and comes on the heels of the #MeToo movement. The PSA is a stark reminder that even getting from point A to B carries risk, particularly if you are not conscientious of the service that you choose.

“The astounding number of tweets that referenced #MeToo and #uber was absolutely frightening, and disheartening to say the least,” said Gary Buffo, President of the National Limousine Association (NLA). Continued Buffo, “It is time to recognize that these services are simply unsafe, and pose an inherent threat to anyone using them, due to the blatantly insufficient background checks that Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) use. Our partner, PAVE, has been instrumental in our campaign to inform the public about the dangers these services pose. Together, we are actively working to compel safety measures that will prevent these crimes.”

For more than 20 years, Angela Rose and PAVE have been the only national charitable organization committed to both sexual harassment and assault prevention and recovery. Through its support, social advocacy, training and education programs, PAVE is leading the way and tackling these issues head on in the hopes of minimizing their occurrences and impact.

Angela Rose, Founder and Director of PAVE, noted, “through our work with survivors, we have always been aware that cases of sexual assault and harassment can occur just about anywhere. Unfortunately, this now includes ride-hail apps such as Uber and Lyft, which is why we have partnered with the National Limousine Association and Pamela Anderson. It is critical that everyone be made aware of the risks associated with ride-hailing apps and PAVE is excited to support this campaign with best practices and tangible safety tips. It’s important to note that no matter how many safety tips you practice, it is never your fault if someone harms you.” Rose continued to say, “While we are so proud of the #MeToo movement and all of the brave men and women that have come forward, we are constantly working to bring an end to these crimes.”

“When I first embarked on my quest to raise awareness about the safety risks associated with ride-hailing apps, I had no idea of the frequency or disturbing nature of the incidents,” said Pamela Anderson. “The reaction to our first campaign was inspiring, and also disheartening, as many voices came to the surface echoing the sentiment, #MeToo. Action, however, is more effective than a hashtag, and it is critical that we take the next step, demand justice for victims and force ride-hail apps to ensure our safety in their vehicles. Fingerprint-based background checks are a simple step that these transportation providers can take, and it is beyond me why this practice isn’t commonplace in 2018. These apps are optimized for predators and will remain so until common sense safety measures are put in place.”

ABOUT RIDE RESPONSIBLY:
The Ride Responsibly campaign is an unprecedented effort to bridge an industry-wide gap between the rights of passengers and the responsibilities of service providers. The campaign establishes best safety practices for prearranged car services and ride-hailing app car services such as Lyft and Uber. This initiative by the National Limousine Association is designed to help address growing public concern and provide a forum for all to voice their views on the ground transportation industry. The program focuses on educating both service providers and the public about regulations, legislation and best practices within the industry. The goal is to empower and inform the public at large, and drivers and operators alike with the necessary tools to Ride Responsibly.

Award-winning Independent Family Adventure Movie “Thrill Ride” Released on DVD and Streaming Tuesday, December 12th

Movies

Movie is Years-in-the-Making Labor of Love by Writer/Director Father Whose Late Son Thought of Premise

Proceeds to Benefit Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation

Mason Parrish once asked his father, writer/director Chris Parrish, if they could make movies together when he grows up. Chris said, “Of course.” Making Thrill Ride, the award-winning family-adventure movie from Mason’s Movies and distributed by Gravitas Ventures, is Chris’ way of keeping that promise. The film will be released on DVD, streaming, and video-on-demand Tuesday, December 12th via Amazon, iTunes, Target.com and pay-per-view.

Thrill Ride is a Mason’s Movies Production, named after writer-director Chris Parrish and co-producer Ilisa Parrish’s son, Mason Parrish, who passed away at age ten in 2011 from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of pediatric brain cancer. Mason thought of the idea for Thrill Ride and he and Chris began brainstorming. Neither were big athletes. Fathers and sons play catch, but for Chris and Mason their catch was pitching ideas to each other for stories. They kept doing that even after Mason was diagnosed with brain cancer. “DIPG took away so much from Mason,” said Chris. “But it never took away his creativity.”

Proceeds from the film go to The Mason Parrish Foundation, a 501c3 charitable corporation with the goal of supporting pediatric brain tumor research and providing handicapped-equipped vans for families facing this devastating diagnosis.

Film critic Dann Gire calls Thrill Ride “…The Goonies for the 21st century,” while ReelChicago says, “Go see it!” The film has a 100% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, five stars on Amazon and 8.6/10 stars on IMDB.

The story — Ever since Al Capone built Happyland Amusement Park in the 1930s, treasure hunters believed Capone’s lost fortune awaits somewhere at the end of a hidden ride no one has ever found…until tonight. When Henry (Lucas Jade Zumann) finds a set of blueprints leading to the loot, he recruits his best friend and big sister on the quest. The kids quickly find themselves on an incredible adventure when they sneak into the abandoned park and witness its attractions magically come to life. To make it out alive, Henry and his pals team up with a friendly sea witch (Kristen Johnston) to do battle against an evil mermaid, deadly pirates, a fire-breathing dragon and an armada of blood-thirsty monsters.

Thrill Ride won Best Feature Film at Gen Con Film Festival 2017, Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Film at Burbank International Film Festival and Best Family Feature at Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival. The movie was nominated for Best American Independent Feature Film at Cleveland International Film Festival, Best Narrative Feature Film at Hollywood Film Festival and was an Official Selection at Laughlin International Film Festival and Beloit International Film Festival.

Diabolique magazine says, “Any kid or adult would want to hop on a tilt-a-whirl with Henry, Truman and Joy.”  Thrill Ride is rated PG.  The movie is written, directed and produced by Chris Parrish; story by Mason ParrishVincent W. Foglia is executive producer and Angie Gaffney serves as producer. Gravitas Ventures is distributing the movie. Thrill Ride stars Kristen Johnston (Third Rock From the Sun), Lucas Jade Zumann (20th Century Women), Tim Kazurinsky (Police Academy movies), Tim Decker (EmpireChicago Fire), Helen Sadler (True Blood), Nicole Scimeca (Broadway’s Anastasia), John Babbo (ChicagoFire) and Tori Waite.

“We were so pleased with our Cinergy fans for coming out and showing support to help the local community,” stated Traci Hoey, Director of Marketing, Sales, and Special Events for Cinergy, “we know that the food collected will help so many families in the months to come.”

CMX Cinemas, the wholly owned subsidiary of Cinemex, has announced the acquisition of Cobb Theatres, a highly respected operator of progressive movie theatre brands primarily located in the southeast, as part of its continued expansion plan. The purchase represents the on-going strategy of CMX Cinemas to establish a major footprint within the motion picture exhibition industry in the United States.

This acquisition positions CMX as the eighth largest movie theater chain in the United States with 30 currently operating sites in 10 states, 342 screens and 2,030 employees.

“We are proud to announce that all of Cobb’s 25 existing locations as well as two theatres under development in Florida and Georgia have been acquired, strengthening the growth of the CMX family in the U.S.,” said Luis Castelazo, Director of CMX.  “This acquisition creates a perfect fit for us due to CMX’s and Cobb Theatres’ shared vision to provide a top-quality guest experience. In addition, Cobb Theatres’ locations and its renowned expertise in the motion picture exhibition industry will complement CMX’s theatres in the United States.”

This new acquisition is part of a very ambitious expansion plan, which consists of both organic and inorganic growth. It includes, in addition to this acquisition, confirmed sites in 10 different locations, including ChicagoMinneapolisNew York and New Jersey, among others. While these 25 venues will keep operating on a regular basis, over the coming months, they will eventually be going through a transformation and brand transition into CMX, reinforcing the meaning of the cinema-going experience.

“We thank Cobb Theatres for its continued support during this transition and in turn, CMX reiterates the commitment to offer the best service to our guests,” Castelazo said.
